Bikkel’s work is autobiographical. Her inspiration source are human beings, especially women. She works in transparent layers or with transparent material, for example with glass. Curaçao is her native island and her works have Papiamentu names. Many of her works have a direct or indirect link with Curaçao. Bikkel writes poems incorporated into her oil paintings. You can find them in the marge of the paintings. In her glass objects, Bikkel mostly processes metal. This use is a metaphor for her homesickness to her native island Curaçao. |
