Bikkel Artist (from the Netherlands, born on Curaçao 1948)

Bikkel graduated in 2002 with an exceptional exam from the Willem de Kooning Art Academy in Rotterdam.

During her training she developed her own versatile style and adopted the artist name “Bikkel” (after the game of “bikkelen” that she liked to play as a child).

At the Art Academy the focus was on idea development. Bikkel wants to be pure and original. She wants her own language development, free from what others have done.

Bikkel has specialized in four style developments that are important to her.

1. In illustrative work, Bikkel creates images using water droplets, to indicate the importance of water.

2. In intuitive work she works from spots and manipulates without wanting to solve.

3. Her portraits and figures are characterized by special attention to the inner self, the character. The anatomical similarity is secondary to this.

4. Her work is often committed. Important for her own well-being. Because through that work she gives her emotions a place. And she gives the victims a platform.
